Ben
Affleck with Matt Damon
Mini-biography
Ben
Affleck was born Benjamin Geza Affleck on August 15, 1972 in Berkley,
California. He was raised however in Cambridge, Massachusetts where
his want to be an actor led him to his first acting experience in
a Burger King commercial before the age of eight. Ben's first steady
acting job came on the PBS mini-series "Voyage of the Mimi, The"
(1984) when he was eight. It was at that age when he met his longtime
friend and "Good Will Hunting" screenwriting partner, Matt
Damon. They attended drama classes and played little league together.
Throughout his teen years, Ben Affleck acted mainly in TV movies and
was given small television parts. Ben's first feature film role came
in 1993 when he starred in "Dazed and Confused." Following
this role he acted in mostly independent films, including Kevin Smith's
"Mallrats" in 1995 and "Chasing Amy" in 1997.
For some time, he struggled to break through completely and land the
bigger roles instead of less significant supporting ones. Living in
an apartment with fellow struggling actors Matt Damon and brother
Casey Affleck, he decided to create the breakthrough he need for himself.
Along with Matt, he cowrote the screenplay to "Good Will Hunting."
Picked up by Miramax, the film, in which both he and Matt starred,
went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, giving
both he and Matt their first Oscars. Since the release of "Good
Will Hunting" in 1997, Ben Affleck has landed a handful of big
roles, including starring turns in Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor"
(2001), "Changing Lanes" (2002), "The Sum of All Fears"
(2002) and "Daredevil" (2003).
